The Year of the Elephant

Abraha, the Abyssinian ruler of Yemen, marched upon Makkah with an army including war elephants to destroy the Ka'bah. Allah sent flocks of birds (Ababil) carrying stones of baked clay, destroying the army completely. This event is recorded in Surah Al-Fil.
Why this matters
This miraculous event, occurring in the same year as the Prophet's ﷺ birth, demonstrated Allah's protection of the Sacred House and set the stage for the arrival of the final Messenger. The Arabs dated events from this year, calling it 'The Year of the Elephant.'

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍۢ وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍۢ مِّن سِجِّيلٍۢ فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍۢ مَّأْكُولٍۭ
Surah Al-Fil, 1-5
Have you not considered, [O Muhammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant? Did He not make their plan into misguidance? And He sent against them birds in flocks, Striking them with stones of hard clay, And He made them like eaten straw.
