Marriage

At the age of twenty-five, Muhammad ﷺ married Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, a noble and wealthy businesswoman of Quraysh who was approximately forty years old. She had been impressed by his honesty, integrity, and excellent character after he managed her trade caravan to Syria. She proposed to him through a female intermediary.

Why this matters

Khadijah was the first wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and their marriage lasted twenty-five years until her death. She was the first person to believe in his message, his greatest supporter during the most difficult years, and the mother of all his surviving children except Ibrahim. The Prophet ﷺ never married another woman during her lifetime.
