The Prophet ﷺ established a unique bond of brotherhood (mu'akhah) between the Muhajirun (the emigrants from Makkah) and the Ansar (the helpers of Madinah). Each Ansari was paired with a Muhajir, and the Ansar shared their wealth, homes, and even offered to divide their properties equally. The generosity of the Ansar was so extraordinary that the Muhajirun prayed for Allah to reward them.

This was a revolutionary social innovation — creating bonds stronger than blood-ties based on shared faith. The Ansar's selflessness was unprecedented; some offered half their wealth and even offered to divorce one of their wives so their Muhajir brother could marry her (which was refused). Allah praised the Ansar in the Quran for their selfless devotion.

Al-Hashr, 9

And those who settled in the Home and embraced the faith before them love those who emigrated to them and find no need in their hearts for what was given to them, and give preference over themselves even though poverty be their lot.
