فتح مكة
The Conquest of Makkah (Fath Makkah)
Ramadan (20th), 8 AH (630 CE)
Makkah مكة المكرمة
After the Quraysh violated the Treaty of Hudaybiyah by supporting an attack on the Prophet's ﷺ allies (Banu Khuza'ah), the Prophet ﷺ marched on Makkah with 10,000 Muslims. The city surrendered almost without resistance. The Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah on his camel with his head bowed in humility, reciting Surah Al-Fath. He went directly to the Ka'bah, circled it, and destroyed the 360 idols inside and around it, reciting: 'Truth has come and falsehood has perished. Indeed, falsehood is ever bound to perish.' He then declared a general amnesty for the people of Makkah.
Why this matters
The conquest of Makkah is one of the most extraordinary events in history. The Prophet ﷺ, who had been driven out as a persecuted refugee eight years earlier, returned as a victor but displayed unparalleled mercy. He forgave even his worst enemies, including those who had tortured, killed, and persecuted Muslims for decades. When asked what he would do with the Quraysh, he said: 'Go, for you are free.' This act of mercy led to the mass acceptance of Islam across Arabia.

Surah An-Nasr, 1-3
When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, and you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, then exalt with praise of your Lord and ask His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.
